Have a look at the following sentences from alternate history:

If the Romans had won the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, no one would have spoken English.

If Shakespeare had been a renowned historian, the Industrial Revolution would have happened 200 years early.

if Germany had invaded Britain by sea, World War II would have ended earlier
